MOM-ents: What's So Fun About Easter?

With her daughter at an age when she will start remembering family fun, Meghan wants some new Easter traditions and asks readers for ideas.

With the upcoming Easter break, I have been busy filling our social calendar so that we can make the most of every minute.  Last year I was laid off, so there wasn’t all the pressure to make every minute count like there is now.  The first thing Ryann asks when she sees that Matt and I are home for the day is “what are we going to do today?”

In years past, I will admit, I slacked off.  We haven’t decorated Easter eggs before because one, I don’t like hard-boiled eggs and two, I figured she was too young to remember.  I understand the excitement of wanting to do all the fun “family” things with your kids but I have definitely cut corners here and there and depended on Ryann’s lack of memory to make it okay (I realize that this may take me out of the running for Mother of the Year, but I feel like I need to be honest).

This year, the pressure is on to start some long-lasting Easter traditions that Ryann, and later Matthew, will always remember.  Last year, and this year as well, we attended the Marshmallow Drop at Elizabeth Park and also the Easter egg hunt at the Westfield center.  This year we will do those things again, although we will be tailgating the morning of the Marshmallow Drop in order to avoid traffic and will make sure to be extra early for the Easter egg hunt since it is over so fast.  (You’re welcome for the tips, first-timers)  We will also be decorating Easter eggs and hosting Easter dinner at our house.

I am looking for fun things to do with both of the kids (Matthew is easy, I can just tie a balloon to his stroller and he is in heaven) that will be a lot of fun (on their part) and won’t take a huge amount of effort (on my part).  These can be events outside of the house (Yay! House stays clean!) or things that you do inside the house (Boo! Have to clean! Ryann will ask who is coming over!).

So my question for all of you is: What are your traditions?  Is there a special recipe you make every Easter?  I would love some new ideas…
