MOM-ents: NYE 2011

Meghan thinks leaving the house on New Year's Eve is too much work.

I have not gone out to celebrate New Year’s Eve since I was pregnant with Ryann.  Each year we start talking with friends about what we want to do for the night and each year we stay at my house.

We enjoy going out and spending time with friends, but New Year’s Eve seems like the night that hanging out is the most unlikely to happen.  I don’t like feeling crowded, not being able to hear each other’s conversations, and waiting on drinks.  Yes, I am officially getting old.  I can’t even fathom the people that go out to Times Square to watch the ball drop.  Nothing about that experience sounds appealing to me.

So again this year the party was at our house and anyone that was unfortunate enough to not have better plans stopped over.  As luck would have it, this just happened to be many of my favorite people.

The truth of the matter is, going anywhere with children is exhausting and finding a babysitter for them on New Year’s Eve feels like I am cheating them-so our kids were involved in the holiday from cleaning up/hiding all of their crap from Christmas to a bubbly juice toast at midnight.

Being the planner that I am, I spent a little time researching how I would do my hair and tried on many of my different black shirts to find the one that fit “just-so” so I at least felt that I put a little more “special” effort on myself for the evening.  So I ended up looking exactly the same as I always do but with fancier earrings.  Which I ditched around midnight.

All in all, it was a great time, and my New Year’s resolution, once again, is totakebettercareofmyselfenjoymyfamilymoresavemoremoneylosethisbabyweight.  That pretty much covers it and since the majority of my resolution can’t necessarily be “measured” (besides of course, my bank account and my weight) I can feel somewhat accomplished as we toast to the New Year next year surrounded by our kids.  Again.
