MOM-ents: Ladies Night

Meghan enjoys a night out at Fratello's with a few of her favorite things.

As I have mentioned before, getting out of the house sometimes proves to be a nightmare, and it is a rare occasion that I am out alone without a husband and/or a kid or two.  With the exception of the commute to and from work, I don’t even normally get to pick what I listen to on the radio, let alone what we do/watch/eat.

On Thursday I was invited to attend the Brownstown Firefighter Guest Bartenders Ladies Night to benefit MDA at .  (I am not sure if this was the actual title, but I didn’t want to leave any important details out.)  Since I had Friday off this seemed to me like the perfect excuse to get Mommy out of the house for a few hours since this event culminated in a perfect storm of all things I love, including:

A FREE snack buffet full of delicious foods.  I usually hate when I go to a buffet and there is so much to pick from that I overeat and am sick.  (I know what you are thinking, why don’t I just eat less?  Impossible.)  With little snack plates I can graze all evening without getting too full which makes me happy.

Girl time.  There is something about being out with just your girlfriends that makes the night extra special, and gives you time to laugh together at the things your husband doesn’t think is funny and to talk about the things your husband doesn’t care about.  We did plenty of both.

Shopping.  Throughout the restaurant, there were vendors with displays of everything you could think of.  It was like a Tastefully Simple Silpada Jewelry Purse Party on steroids.  This basically means I spent all of my own money and even some of my friend’s.

Alcoholic beverages.  I like to imbibe every so often and am fine with having a drink in the comfort of my own home, but having a drink made for me and being able to sit and enjoy it without two toddlers hanging from my leg was priceless.  Of course, the glass could have been full of pickle juice and I would have still enjoyed it.  (Nights out are few and far between)

Good-looking men.  The Brownstown Firefighters sent out their finest (literally) to tend the bar for the evening.  I am happily married but there is nothing wrong with having a hot guy that is not your husband serve you a drink.  Like they say, just because you are on a diet doesn’t mean you can’t look at the menu, right?

Charity.  The pièce de résistance of the whole night is that the Brownstown firefighters were out on their own time working the bar and then donating all of their tips to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.  Which means I got a few child-free hours out with adult girlfriends and it was all in the name of charity.  It was definitely a great way to have fun while increasing my good karma.  Do I have to wait another whole year for the next one?
