MOM-ents: Fall Festivities Make Big Memories

Meghan looks for ideas on how to create fun fall memories for her kids.

I have a great memory for "Mom-ents."  I can’t tell you with 100% accuracy what time my kids were born exactly or even how much they weighed at birth without some deep thinking.  I can remember the feeling of all of my breath leaving my body and the swelling of my throat as each baby was laid on top of my belly for the first time.

I can’t remember how many days old my children were when they hit certain milestones, but I can remember exactly where we were and what I was doing when they smiled at me for the first time and how my heart leapt each time I heard them first say “mama.”

Because of the importance of “Mom-ents” in my kids’ lives (and in my own memory), this time of year is one of my favorites because we get to do a lot of “traditional” things around the holidays and one of the first things we do this time of year is go to the in downtown Trenton.   The last two years we have met up with my best friend and her children who (like it or not) are going to be (or are already) my kids’ best friends.

While the Scarecrow Fest is by no means a huge affair, Ryann loves it and gets our “fall” started off right as it is the first time of the year that we start to see fresh caramel apples,  doughnuts, cider, and, of course scarecrows and all things Halloween.

I know eventually Ryann and Matthew (and any more children we may have) will outgrow the Scarecrow Fest and many of our other fall/winter activities, but I hope that as they grow older they will have the gift of having a memory like mine and look back on this time of year as one of their favorites too.
