MOM-ents: An Unexpected, Pleasant Surprise

Just when Meghan thought she had enough toys lingering around her living room, the gods of fate (actually raffle tickets at a Family Fun Fair) had other plans.

As a last-minute family outing this weekend, we decided to head to Anderson Elementary’s Fun Fair at (if you couldn’t figure out from the name) Anderson Elementary School in Trenton. I knew nothing about it other than there would be some sort of carnival games and awesome prizes to be raffled off. Something they may want to note for next year is that moms that don’t have any school age children may not be aware of this great “wear your kid out” opportunity.

Basically, you buy tickets for everything that you want to do, be it food, raffles or games and then you walk through the halls of the school and play the various carnival games that they have.

I was amazed at the amount of people there and Ryann had a lot of fun even though she wasn’t good at any of the games (just being honest).  We patiently waited in line with her as she played each and every little thing she wanted.

Then it came time to turn in her scorecard and receive a prize.  As we turned a corner and saw the line of kids waiting to redeem their prizes, we decided we had enough waiting for the day.  Plus, since my living room/kitchen/basement/bedroom already looks like it threw up toys, I figured she could go without a huge inflatable crayon.  So we told her (lied) that we would redeem her points for a happy meal ticket and take her to get a happy meal (brilliant, I know), so that is what we did.

We patted ourselves on the back as we escaped without any more kid stuff for one day.  We got her the McDonald’s and headed home.  An hour later we got a phone call.  Ryann won a raffle item so we could come pick it up before 4 p.m. if we were available.  Of course we were happy for her and I woke her up from her nap so she could go with me to pick it up so I could see her authentic reaction.

She won a large bucket literally filled with toys.  So much for avoiding any additions to the toy collection!  She was really excited so, of course, we will find room for all of the stuff (by throwing out things while she is sleeping) and we are happy that she got a chance to win, too (although we will be ticked if we wasted all of our “lotto” luck on this).
