Local Volunteers Make New Grosse Ile Beach Accessible

A staircase built by local volunteers allows the public to visit a public beach on Grosse Ile.

A team of volunteers consisting of students, professional builders, engineers, contractors and materials providers came together to build an access point to a a public beach on Grosse Ile.

The water frontage at the east end of Grosse Ile Parkway was obtained from Wayne County and is now part of the Township of Grosse Ile.

"This has been a true community project, funded with donations and built by volunteers," Craig Pilkington of Opportunity Grosse Ile said. "It is a park that can be added to over time as the community's wants and needs change. It is an asset that the community has long wanted, public water access, and now has, thanks to generous donors and volunteers."
