Grosse Ile Veterans Gala Honors Women in the Military

The theme of the fourth annual gala was "Women in the Military."

People filled the Grosse Ile Municipal Airport Saturday afternoon to honor women who serve in the military.

The Grosse Ile Veterans Gala annually salutes all member of the military, past and present, with this year’s special tribute to "Women in the Military." This was the event's fourth year.

Vickie Williams, a Dearborn resident who served in the U.S. Navy in 1957, told Fox 2 News she wanted to thank everyone who participated in wars during her years in the military, whether they served or not.

"I think of all the men who served, I considered it an honor to serve," Williams said. "And I think of all the Rosie the Riveters, who worked back here, got their hands greasy, had a lot of work to do and support family."
