This women-sponsored motorcycle ride is the tenth anniversary charity event that has raised over $150,000 for breast cancer research, local breast cancer charities, domestic violence shelters, human trafficking awareness projects, and Soroptimist International of Trenton Area service projects.  Soroptimists worldwide work to improve the lives of women and girls through local and global service and donations.  The Trenton Area Soroptimists have supported First Step and women’s health issues for over thirty years.  Special attention has been given to breast cancer for nine years. They also sponsored a public awareness symposium on human trafficking and will present another later this year.

This year’s motorcycle ride on Saturday, September 7, 2013, will enjoy a new venue at Biker Bob’s Harley-Davidson Motown, which is located at 14100 Telegraph Road, in Taylor.  Marketing manager, Chris Baxter, states that Biker Bob’s will provide special wrist bands which will qualify the wearer for 10% off of aftermarket parts and officially licensed motor clothes and accessories. Mr. Baxter says that there will be available a “jump start,” a simulator to experience motorcycle riding and lessons about how to choose the correct bike.  Mark Bowman of Biker Bob’s tells us that “the ladies are taking charge” and learning how to ride.  Biker Bob will be there in costume, too.

Larry Suban, the Motown H.O.G. 2357 Senior Road Captain, is organizing the chapter’s road captains, including two women, to escort the Soroptimist motorcycle ride.  Mr. Suban will also conduct a safety program.  “We are all about safety on these rides,” says Mr. Suban.  A police escort will accompany all of the riders, as well.

Besides the charity motorcycle ride itself, the registration price includes a full buffet-style dinner and beverages.  Zero Balance, a band that frequently plays at the Greek Town Casino will provide the entertainment from 2:30 P.M. - 5:30 P.M.   There will be a silent auction and raffles composed of a golf package, a $350 detailing package, four tickets to a Tigers game, two tickets for a Pistons game and suite (food and beverages included), several specialty baskets, a stained-glass window piece, and more items.  Other items included in the auction are gift certificates to local businesses like Maria’s Eclectic Salon & Spa, Old’s Flowers, Carefree Nursery, West Grange, Krave Salon, Workout Warehouse, The Framery, Savannah’s, Trisha Boutique, Hallmark, and Biker Bob’s, to name

just a few.
