A Tractor Supply Company store is currently under construction at the Trafford Square shopping center in Trenton and slated for opening at the end of March, the company said in a press release Tuesday.
The store, 3000 Van Horn Rd., will be located in the former Foodtown grocery store and Metro South Church building. Construction for the project began in January.
Tractor Supply is the largest retail farm and ranch supply store chain in the U.S. and has been operating in Michigan since 1960. This will be the company’s 76th location in the state.
The store offers a comprehensive selection of merchandise for the health, care, growth and containment of horses, livestock and pets including select Purina and Nutrena brand feeds; a broad selection of agricultural products; as well as tools and hardware.
City Administrator Jim Wagner said Trenton is eager to finally have a retail farm and ranch store back in the city.
“It’s the first 'box store' to come to the city after a number of years,” Wagner said. “We got it done in a very short period of time, and I’m very positive about the future of the business.”
The business plans to hire between 12 and 17 full- and part-time employees.
Stuart Epstein, a managing partner of Trafford Square Limited Partnership, said the store would help serve the maintenance needs of those who enjoy the rural lifestyle.
“They sell everything from landscape supplies and fencing to tools and the big gates you see for ranches,” Epstein said.
“The only thing they don’t sell is tractors,” he said.
The store will be 20,000 square feet of interior and an additional 15,000 feet of outdoor display, which will be used for storage and displaying items such as fencing, sprayers and livestock equipment, Epstein said.
Tractor Supply Company operates more than 1,245 stores in 48 states.
