Woodhaven Police Shoot, Kill Man at Walmart
The following information was supplied by the Woodhaven Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.
Woodhaven police shot and killed a man at Walmart, 23800 Allen Road, after the man attempted to use a stolen vehicle to run down two officers at about 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Woodhaven Police Department.
Police were called to the Walmart in reference to a larceny report, and after arriving on the scene the responding officers were confronted by a man carrying a screwdriver in the parking lot.
The two officers ordered the man to drop the screwdriver, at which time he got into the stolen vehicle, put the vehicle in reverse and attempted to run down one of the officers. The man missed the officer and struck a nearby patrol car.
The man then put the stolen vehicle into drive and made an attempt to run down the other responding officer.
The officers then fired their weapons to stop the assault, killing the man.
Police arrested a woman who was allegedly with the man, attempting to shoplift from the store. The woman is being held at the Woodhaven Police Department.
There was no further information available early Wednesday morning on either the man or the woman, according to Lt. Tim Ames of the Woodhaven Police Department.
No officers were injured in the incident.
The investigation has been handed over to the Michigan State Police.

And trying to run two police officers down with a car isn't?!? If someone was trying to run you over with a car and you had a gun, would you try to aim for their arm?!?

Who said they were shooting with the intent to kill. When you try to run down someone in a car bad things can happen, particularily when that someone is a law inforcement officer. Sometimes the bad things happen to those doing the bad deed. However, not often enough, 100% of the time would be appropriate. Then people might stop breaking the law.

I stand up and applaud the Woodhaven Police! I believe that the officers were enforcing what they are trained, to Protect and Serve! Shoot to kill is not wrong if the officer is protecting themself! Just one less dirtbag on this earth who deserved what he got! Maybe he should have spent his energy and time getting a job instead of freeloading off of others! He wouldn't have been in this situation if he was an upstanding citizen!

I agree, he very well could have sped away and killed and innocent person trying to get their groceries to their car. Better him than anyone else as he was completely responsible for the situation.

Amy, Ma, and Lynn - thank you for your comments. I agree with all of them. The officers face these situations every day and it comes down to "me or him" all the time. I'm glad they chose "him" and we're able to return home to their families at the end of their shifts.

To many times officers are faced with this no win situation because the criminal mind has no respect for the law and the challenge in the judicial system favors the offender rather than the enforcer.

Conspiracy Theory: I bet the guy was just trying to unionize Walmart and management had him gunned down so they can continue with their crappy pay and benefits!

Good comment Lee. What were wallmart's security sisses doing? Why didn't they grabbed the guy as he walked out the door, like most stores do? They had been following him around, from what I have heard he was stealing t-shirts and food! Why did they have to rely on the Woodhaven police to get him ? And of course wallyworld wouldn't close their doors till the morning to respect what had just happened in their parking lot. No, bussiness as ususal. They just roped off the area, I'm sure they looked at it as a chance to make money because people would come in just to see the buzz! Maybe if wallmart paid their employee's and security guards more money they would be willing to do their job!
