Where Can You Buy Paczki in Trenton and on Grosse Ile?
Local bakeries in Trenton and on Grosse Ile gear up for Fat Tuesday on Feb. 12.
Fat Tuesday is once again upon us, and for many people the Lent season kicks off with consuming some of the highest fattening foods out there.
Enter the paczki.
Sugar, eggs and fat are traditionally combined to create paczki, traditional Polish doughnuts filled with fruit or cream and dusted with powdered sugar or glazed.
The popular treats sell out quick at local eateries, including Elliott's Bakery in Trenton and the Grosse Ile Bakery on Grosse Ile, where workers will begin churning out the fried dough beginning as soon as Saturday in anticipation of large crowds.
"Orders are already coming in," said Ann Vidojevski, owner of Elliott's Bakery.
Vidojevski said the bakery typically makes and sells many untold numbers of the tasty treats, and will once again offer raspberry, custard and lemon flavors.
In order to help control crowds, Vidojevski is encouraging customers with large orders to call ahead.
Paczki are $1.25 each or $12 for a dozen.
To place an order, call 734-676-1940.
