Trenton Mayor Kyle Stack, Police Chief Jim Nardone and officers and their dogs from across Downriver descended on city hall to see Kopper off.

Kopper's handler, Cpl. Rick Tanguay, said retiring his partner was bittersweet. Kopper will spend the rest of his days with the Tanguay family -- relaxing.

Police officials made the decision to retire Kopper after he suffered an injury during a training exercise in October.

That's an incredibly long career for a K-9 officer. He's certainly earned his rest!
