The Trenton Police Department will have no shortage of law enforcement officers standing guard during the Trenton Fourth of July Fireworks after nine different agencies have agreed to assist with what might be the biggest turnout ever.

The Trenton Auxiliary Police, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, U.S. Border Patrol, U.S. Coast Guard, the Downriver Party Patrol Task Force, Canadian Nationals, Michigan State Police, Railroad Police and the Wayne County Sheriff's Department have agreed to lend officers from each agency for the duration of the fireworks.

Recent budget cuts have forced several surrounding communities, including nearby Wyandotte, to cut their fireworks displays making Trenton one of the only shows around.

Trenton Police Chief Jim Nardone said this year's fireworks are set be the biggest display in years making the event more desirable and will likely draw a larger crowd than normal.

"We're expecting a larger crowd because of the quality of the fireworks display," Nardone said. "Our police department and the assisting departments are prepared for a large crowd."

Fritz Enterprises donated the fireworks for the City of Trenton after budget woes threatened to cancel the show.

Nardone said one of the major changes to the event this year is the closing of West Jefferson Avenue from Harrison Road to King Road from 7 p.m. until the conclusion of the event in an effort to safe guard pedestrians.

He added the department is implementing a zero tolerance policy to underage drinking, fighting or any unruly behavior.

Anyone found committing the before mentioned acts will be ejected from the event and/or arrested.

"We're here to provide a safe event for every event goer," Nardone said.

All of the officers on scene will be easily identified.

The fireworks begin at 10 p.m. July 4 at Rotary Park.

There is no alcohol allowed in Rotary Park and none will be sold at the event.
