A picture is worth a thousand words.

This phrase is especially meaningful today after Arcadia Publishing released the pictorial history book, "Trenton" written by local author Linda Mierzejewski for the Trenton Historical Society.

Trenton is now part of the publishing company's Images of America series, which also includes books on New York, Hollywood and Chicago -- to name a few.

The book has more than 200 vintage images and provides readers with a unique opportunity to reconnect with the history that shaped their community, according to an Arcadia release.

"This new title reconnects people with their past through vintage images – images that may even include you, your family and your friends," Leigh Scott, sales and marketing specialist for Arcadia Publishing, said in an email.

The book can be purchased on the Arcadia Publishing website, Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble for $21.99.

Using the resources of the Trenton Historical Society and the Trenton Historical Commission, files from the Trenton police and fire departments, and a myriad of other sources, this pictorial history by Linda Mierzejewski and Carol Hendricks of the Trenton Historical Society tells the story of Trenton from its founding in 1816 through the 21st century, according to the Arcadia website.

"We have not had a book on Trenton since 1983 and we thought we needed to have an updated book with different pictures and to showcase more of Trenton's history," Hendricks said. "Trenton has been around here for a very long time and there's probably some newer people in town that might not know how old Trenton really is."
