Residents of Trenton who wish to use the pit or dispose of grass and brush at the Trenton Transfer Station must pay a fee of $5 per car, van or SUV and $10 per pick up truck beginning July 1.
At least one resident said the difference in fees for cars and pickup trucks is unfair, but Trenton City Engineer William Hogan said the larger fee prevents people from filling up the bed of a pickup truck and attempting to pay the same as a person with a single bag of yard waste.
However, there is still no charge for recycling newsprint, plastic containers, clear food grade glass, tin and aluminum cans. Empty paint and aerosol cans, and used motor oil will be accepted for recycling at designated areas.
The Transfer Station located at 1801 Van Hord Road is for use by Trenton residents only and is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The station is closed on Sunday and Monday and all city observed holidays.
Residents must have a valid Michigan driver's license to use the facility.
