Mayor Seeking Gourmet Grocery Chain for Trenton
Trenton Mayor Kyle Stack has sent several emails to a major gourmet grocery chain to encourage the company to open up shop on Van Horn in Trenton.
Trader Joe's has four locations in Michigan and Trenton Mayor Kyle Stack wants to add one more to the mitten.
Stack has contacted the major gourmet grocery chain four times via email to recommend they bring the store to Trenton.
Stack said she thinks the former site of the Metro South Church, 3000 Van Horn Road, on the corner of Fort Street and Van Horn Road would be the perfect spot to house a Trader Joe's.
A representative of Trader Joe's responded to one of Stack's emails Tuesday afternoon:
"Rest assured, every email is read and your recommendation will be passed along to our real estate folks."
A connection has been made. What do you think about Trader Joe's coming to Trenton? If not Trader Joe's, then what?

Too many recalls coming from that store and a lot of food from foreign countries. I'd rather have Whole Foods.

I am keeping my fingers crossed that this actually happens (major kudos to Mayor Stack!!!). Unfortunately Downriver always seems to be overlooked when it comes to these kinds of stores/chains.

Fantastic. Nate you should reach out to city hall and convey the feedback from this site. My family would be thrilled to have an alternative place for food.

I would LOVE a Trader Joe's Downriver! Sending them e-mails through their website is a good idea. Also, if you go to a TJ's and they ask your zip code, tell them 48183. A cashier told me this is one way they track interest.

I contacted TJ's before the church moved into the old Chatham's store. They gave me the same answer they gave Kyle! I agree with AK that Trader Joe's has had its share of quality control lately, but they are still a good company. I believe that Aldi's is Trader Joe's new owner. Whole Foods would be my first choice, but that ain't gonna happen, so Trader Joe's would still be a great choice. Yes, let's all email them.

While living in California I shopped Trader Joes weekly. My wife and I have gone to Ann Arbor a few times since we moved back. We really love that store. I really like Whole Foods as well but I am not srue that people around the area will be willing to pay the higher prices for the better quality. I believe that Whole foods would not get enough traffic for them to want to stick around, therefore I doubt they would ever consider it.

The Mayor is wasting her time. They will not come to Trenton as businesses like that work off a 10 mile radius. Since Trenton is cut off at the water, they would not consider it for a location.

Trader Joe's or Whole Foods would be great. There another store called Dorothy Lane Market in the Dayton, Ohio area that is just as good, also.

A Trader Joes here in Trenton, or anywhere downriver will absolutley thrive, you will be surprised, there wont be a place to park in that lot, it will always be packed. I know it, people will travel to come to Trader Joes. Excellent decision!!

I agree! There are plenty of people who go out of their way to go to TJ's and also whole Food. Another option for the mayor I think would be Westborn Market or Plum Market. But Trader Joe's would do a terrific business here because of price, service and quality of goods.
