Trenton hockey fans will have to keep the booze inside Legends 1926 Bar and Grill, after restuarant owners agreed to a policy that does not allow alcohol to be served or consumed outside the confines of the restaurant during high school related events, according to Trenton city officials.

Though the issue was not stated in the initial contract between the Kennedy Restaurant Group LLC and the City of Trenton, restaurant owners have agreed to not serve alcoholic beverages anywhere outside the restaurant including inside the arena and in suites located on the second floor.

Trenton High School has eight suites located directly across the hall from the restaurant.

High school Athletic Directer Brett Woodley said restaurant staff will be responsible for keeping alcohol inside the restaurant.

Legends owners have several permits to serve alcohol, according to the Michigan Liquor Control Commission (MLCC) website.

City Administrator Jim Wagner said the restaurant's license to sell alcohol, issued by the MLCC, allows them to provide alcohol to customers inside the restaurant.

"Alcohol and high schools sports is not a good mix," Wagner said.

So far, the new policy only applies to high school related contests. City officials continue to meet with restaurant owners to further discuss the policy.

The restaurant currently serves food and non-alcoholic beverages both inside and outside the restaurant during high school contests.

Trenton High School's first hockey game is scheduled for Dec. 15.

A representative of Legends could not be reached for comment.

Legends 1926 Bar and grill is located on the second floor of the Kennedy Recreation Center.
