Christmas is the season of giving, and Patch wants to know what charity or group you are giving to this year.
The American Red Cross released a poll in November in which most Americans said that they will continue to donate to charity this holiday season. In fact, most people said that their giving to political causes and Hurricane Sandy relief efforts will not reduce their year-end gifts to charity.
The Red Cross poll also said that friends play a large role in charitable giving. Half of all donors (51 percent) said they would donate if a friend talked to them personally about a charity.
So now Patch is asking you: What charities do you plan to help this Christmas? Will you donate to the Salvation Army or Toys for Tots? Will you volunteer at a local food bank or help out the Goodfellows? Is there another charity that you will help?

Starting with the appeals for relief for those affected by Hurricane Sandy, my family contributed to the Salvation Army relief effort. We continue to drop a bill into every Red Kettle we encounter.
I just bought two packs of Christmas cards that support the work of the Michigan Anti-Cruelty Society. And we'll be donating to The Goodfellows and Toys for Tots.

Our group, like others around the country, work year round to knit, crochet, collect, warm hats etc for the homeless and working poor. Feel free to join us Monday evenings 5;30 to 7:30 at Ford rd Panera bread in Dearborn Hgts. You can donate yarn if you don't knit.

I will give to area animal rescues and the Wyandotte Animal Shelter/Pound Pals of Wyandotte where I volunteer. All donations to Pound Pals go to the medical care of the orphaned animals brought to the shelter. I will give to the Salvation Army and drop extra $$ in the red kettles. I also dontate to the Goodfellows funds.

My favorite for the last 35 years has been the Old Newsboys Goodfellow Fund of Detroit, a 98-year old 501(C)(3) charity that this year hopes to raise $1.2 million to provide 32,000 Christmas packages stuffed with warm clothing, hats, gloves, toys, dolls, books, candy and a host of other gifts for kids aged 5-13 in Detroit, Harper Woods, Highland Park and River Rouge.
