This election cycle, Grosse Ile residents are giving contributions to both President Barack Obama and his Republican opponent Mitt Romney, but there were more donations exceeeding $1,000 for Romney.
According to Federal Election Commission records, Grosse Ile residents have made 86 donations totaling about $47,360 to both presidential campaigns.
Of those, 52 were to Obama and 34 were to Romney.
All this information and more can be found in an interactive database from Patch so you can see how much your Grosse Ile neighbors have donated to the various presidential campaign — and to which candidate they’re writing their checks.
We’ve also included records for many communities across southeastern Michigan, so if you want to see who from Dearborn or Grosse Pointe contributed to campaigns, go right ahead. You can search by candidate, contributor, city, ZIP code and amount contributed.
It's important to note that while a vote for a candidate is secret, a donation to a campaign is public record and open to public scrutiny. Federal election law requires campaigns to regularly report donations and contributors. The information in the database was downloaded from the Federal Election Commission’s website. The data is based on quarterly reports and is current through July. The FEC data will be updated in mid-October. We'll update this database when new information is available.

Ugh! I can't stand that they make this info public. It is one thing to show general stats but to put who I contribute to discourages me from contributing ANYTHING. If regulators are concerned that is one thing and I don't care. I can account to them (privately). I don't want to have to listen to my neighbors after they see who I am contributing to (one way or another). No, I'm not on the list and never will be because I refuse to contribute to either party for privacy reasons. My preferences are my business. It is basically showing who is voting for who. I think this is a gross violation of privacy.
