The Grosse Ile Islanders won back-to-back state championships in travel hockey over the weekend.

The Grosse Ile Islanders travel hockey team claimed their second straight state championship this weekend.

The Islanders are the only team in their age group to win back-to-back state championships.

The Islanders are made up of residents of both Grosse Ile and Trenton including head coach Jim Blackledge and assistant coach Tim Litchard.

The Islanders are:

  • Justin Litchard
  • Chase McLane
  • Donte DiPonio 
  • Kevin Crawley
  • Jordan Cormier
  • Tyler Haydu
  • Jordan Venegoni
  • Daniel Baja
  • Corey Matthews
  • Chris Hayes
  • Chance Matthews

"We are the only group at this age level to ever win back-to-back," Jenny Welsch said in an email.
