Grandmother of Girl Taunted on Facebook Charged With Disorderly Conduct
After gaining national attention over the last two years including becoming the focus of an episode of Dr. Phil, a feud on Detroit Street in Trenton involving the grandmother of a recently deceased young girl and Jennifer Petkov has resurfaced.
After several months of quiet, the feud on Detroit Street has started up once again.
Rebecca Rose, whose granddaughter became known across the country after being taunted on Facebook in 2010, was charged with disorderly conduct June 6.
Kathleen Edward, Rose's granddaughter, died Jan. 11 after a long battle with Huntington's disease.
Rose is charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct after Jennifer Petkov complained to Trenton Police that Rose made a disparaging remark toward her on the afternoon of May 9.
A pretrial is scheduled for Rose on July 5 and a jury trial is set for Aug. 17 at the 33rd District Court in Woodhaven.
The feud has resurfaced several times since Detroit Street first became national news after Rose's neighbor, Jennifer Petkov, admitted to posting photos depicting the then 7-year-old girl and her mother, who also died of Huntington's Disease in 2009, in an embrace from the grim reaper and in a skull and crossbones.
Both Scott Petkov, Jennifer Petkov's husband who spoke on her behalf, and Rose confirmed that Rose said "the (expletive) ain't gonna be pregnant forever" while outside Rose's daughter's house on Detroit Street.
Rose told Trenton Patch on Friday she was speaking to her daughter at the time of the incident and not to Jennifer.
Jennifer Petkov made the complaint at the Trenton Police Department at 6:45 p.m. the same day.
Scott Petkov said he did not want to comment except that there were at least five other incidents involving Rose and the Petkovs leading up to the above incident over the previous three to four weeks.
"We were not doing anything to instigate," Scott Petkov said. "Nobody made any comments or gestures toward Rebecca (Rose) at all."
Rose said she made the comment to her daughter after a pregnant Jennifer Petkov stood on her porch rubbing her belly and laughing.
"Jennifer (Petkov) made a complaint and told half-truths about what happened," Rose said.
Rose added she recently moved away from Detroit Street, but she often visits her daughter and cousin, who both live near the Petkovs.
Trenton Police Chief Jim Nardone declined to comment on the incident.
Members of both families, including Kathleen's father, Robert Edward, Rose and Jennifer and Scott Petkov, were featured on an episode of Dr. Phil titled "Unforgivable Acts," following the girl's death.
On the show Robert Edward said he forgave Jennifer Petkov and that, though he did not like her and did not want to be her friend, he hoped she could move on from the feud.
Since the initial incident in 2010, members of both families have made other complaints to Trenton Police.

SERIOUSY??? You decided to print this rubbish?? Rebecca Rose has suffered the utmost horror...losing her daughter and grandaughter to a debilitating disease, then having to waste what precious time she had LEFT with her family battling over the whims of a psychopath who kept dragging her into court for NOTHING!!! Petkov has made a mockery of the court system, and now she's stringing the media along like puppets. Was this REALLY necessary, Trenton Patch? Slow news day?

Trenton Patch a.k.a. Trenton Enquirer just because a police report is filed doesn't make it "news". Looks like I may need to think about unsubscribing, not happy to see another unnecessary police report in my inbox :(

Is this really news worthy? Come on. This type of print, hype and headlines just adds fuel to the fire. This story has already gotten more ink that it ever deserved. Can we just put it behind us and move on? Moreover, these people really need to grow up and get a life and start acting like responsible adults.

are you kidding me ? This is really quite funny, If the grandmother doesn't live there anymore, then why is she coming back to start trouble? Makes me wonder about the other stuff that happened, maybe there is more to this story than we know.

@"Janis"...how about the fact that Rebecca Rose still has FAMILY living on that street? Should she NOT visit them because Petkov will cry wolf every time she shows up? Think about that, eh?

Well it is clear she is not as inoccent as she portays herself. The police don't charge people with things, if they are just visiting. It says she admited she was calling petkov names. Coming to visit shouldn't involve rose running her mouth to start trouble. I believe she thinks she is untouchable.
