Did You Hear a Loud Boom Friday Morning?

Trenton-Grosse Ile Patch readers reported hearing a loud boom at about 7:30 a.m. Friday near Kind Road and Telegraph Road.

Local police have not identified the origin of a loud boom reportedly heard at about 7:30 a.m. Friday.

Trenton, Brownstown and Woodhaven police have received several reports about the loud noise. Several readers also reported hearing the boom on the Trenton-Grosse Ile Patch Facebook page.

Officers from all three local police departments said they were not able to identify the source of the boom at about 1 p.m. Friday.

Flat Rock police said they had not received reports of a loud boom at about 1:20 p.m. Friday.

Woodhaven police said reports were made about a loud boom that came from the area of King Road and Gudith Road. Patch readers reported the boom came from a similar area near King Road and Telegraph Road.

A representative of DTE Energy said the boom was not a gas related issue.

"If we had any major malfunctions that would have resulted in a sound like that -- I would know about it," said John Austerberry, media representative for DTE Energy.

Perhaps the loud boom people heard this morning was an early firework? Fireworks were set off at about 7:15 p.m. Friday night for the City of Woodhaven Annual Tree Lighting Fireworks. -- NS

I heard (and felt) the boom at Hall and King and reported it to the police around 7:30 am. I had nothing to do with the firework! This boom shook many homes and felt strong enough to crack a foundation. I've lived in the area for 17 years so I can tell you that it was not a train or some severe crash on I-75. It definitely sounded like something from underground.

And it had nothing to do with the quarry, that would have been my thought, so strange.
