Segedi said he received a call from a representative of Team Sports, a business that sells Nike sporting goods to high schools, who had read the article and was interested in knowing more about Victory Day.

"The next day he calls and said, "I met with our regional guy...we're in,'" Segedi said.

The jerseys would have cost Segedi about $50 each, if not for Nike's donation.

Segedi said he had made a wish list for Victory Day and football jerseys were at the top of the list.

The Huffington Post picked up the Trenton Patch article for their "Greatest Person of the Day" section, which helped Victory Day spread like wildfire.

Segedi said he has received emails from coaches and teachers at high schools throughout Michigan, Ohio, Arizona and Virginia--each wanting to know how they can start their own Victory Day.

Though Nike was a huge boost, Segedi said he is still looking for sponsors and is currently creating a sponsor package for the event.

Items remaining on Segedi's wish list are:

  • Event programs
  • Victory Day website
  • Youth goal posts
  • Additional sponsors
