Alleged Drunken Driver Crashes Into Security Gate in Trenton
The following information was supplied by the Trenton Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.
An alleged drunken driver crashed his 2012 Chevy Equinox into a security gate near an intersection at Wallace Drive and Fritz Drive at about 12:45 a.m. July 13.
After refusing medical treatment, the man told a responding officer he was at a golf outing in Riverview earlier in the day and got lost. He said he was trying to drive back to Ypsilanti, went off the roadway and struck the security gate.
The officer said he smelled intoxicants coming from the man's breath and his speech was slurred. After administering a field sobriety test, the officer arrested the man for operating while intoxicated and transported him to the Trenton Police Department.
Police said there was a large amount of debris near the damaged metal security gate and the gate was bent in half.
The man's sport utility vehicle had extensive damage to the front end and driver's side, according to a Trenton police report.
He was the only occupant in the vehicle.
