Lifelong Trenton Resident Mary Ganz Dies at 91

Lifelong Trenton resident Mary A. Ganz died Nov. 23 at the age of 91. Ganz was born in Trenton on Jan. 29, 1920 to Anna (Chelini) and Pio Piunti, who settled in Trenton after immigrating from Rome, Italy.
Ganz grew up in Trenton. After high school, she married Gino Ganz and together they raised their family. Ganz was very proud of her Italian heritage, her community and her family. She liked to laugh and enjoyed her activities with the Downriver Amici Club, traveling with the local Senior Citizens group, and spending time with friends and family.
Ganz is survived by her three sons, Lawrence (Sandra Kilinski) of Traverse City, Joseph (Carol) of Washoe Valley, Nev., and Gregory (Maureen) of Sterling Heights; her grandchildren, Julie (Craig) Waple, Jenny Waple and Joey Waple; her great-grandchildren, Aria, Gianna, Dreya and Trenton Waple, and Jessica and Ronald Ganz (children of the late Jeffrey Ganz); and her sister, Louise Foley.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gino and infant daughter, Mary Ann, who died in her first year of life; her brother, Sam Piunti; her sisters, Eva Piunti and Lillian Reichelderfer; and her grandson, Jeffrey.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, Nov. 26, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Trenton Chapel of The Martenson Family of Funeral Homes, 3200 West Rd, and on Sunday, Nov. 27, from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 28, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2623 Third St., Trenton. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Hope Cemetery in Brownstown.
